Susan Jane Matthews
Biography
Susan Jane Matthews has been Director of Music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Burlingame, California since 2005, and founding director of the St. Paul's Choir School (2007). She has led the Choir of St. Paul's in two English cathedral residencies (Gloucester and Wells), two CDs, and two commissioned works. She previously served as Director of Music at St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral, Boise; and Principal Organist of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, where she recorded two organ CDs for the Gothic label. Dr. Matthews is a graduate of Haverford College (BA), Eastman School of Music (MM, DMA), and an Associate of the Royal School of Church Music (ARSCM). A passionate advocate for women musicians, she has highlighted their music in performances as organist and pianist, written articles on girl choristers, Fanny Hensel and other women composers (RSCM Church Music Quarterly, AAM Journal); and founded A Great Host of Women Composers Database (www.greathostcomposer.org).
